I can't believe it's been 1 year! Here is what a big 1yr old boy is up to now:
At his 12 month check-up just this morning- he weighed 19 lbs and 10oz and was 29 inches long. He was in between the 50th and 25th percentile for his height and down in between the 25th and 10th percentile for his weight. The doctor was not concerned and actually looked up Amelia's records because he thought Amelia had the same pattern. Amelia had the exact same pattern- at this point she had dropped down in the percentile for her weight. So the Doc wasn't worried- Luke passed all the other 'tests' with flying colors!
Luke is wearing size 12 month and some size 18month. We just broke out the 18 month pajamas and long-sleeve shirts. He still fits just fine in his 12 month shirts but since we have a few 18 month I wanted him to wear them before spring comes. His 12 month pants fit him well so I doubt we will need any 18 month pants. We are just about to move him up to size 4 diapers. He is wearing a size 3.5 or 4 shoe (the 4's are a little big but we only have one pair that's a 3.5).
Luke LOVES to stand! He will grab onto our hands and then let go- and grin and laugh while he stands until he looses balance and has to grab onto our hands again. It's like a game to him- to see how long he can stand. He actually took his FIRST STEPS on January 8th! We haven't been able to get him to take any steps since then.
Teeth- The tooth on each side of his middle upper teeth are both completely come through and he is starting to get the tooth on the lower right of his middle teeth. So now he has 4 on top and two on bottom with one on the way!
Talking: lots of babbling and boy noises, Dan has heard him say "I do it"; so far then he has said: mama, dada, eat, oh no, and I do it.
Luke LOVES bath time- he loves to crawl all over tub; he will pull himself up and then go back down. He loves to splash and doesn't mind the water getting in his face.
Eating: Luke has finally figured out how to put food in his mouth! About 2 weeks ago it just clicked I guess. Mommy gave him some of her favorite baked white cheddar cheetos and he LOVES them. The small stick like shape makes it easy for him to pick up and get in his mouth and they dissolve pretty easily. Plus he loves the flavor- he doesn't like any of the normal 'toddler' foods. This boy just wants regular food. After discovering the cheetos he took off putting all kinds of other foods in his mouth. He especially loves mac and cheese, vanilla wafers, and any meat. He has had pizza, spaghetti, any kind of pasta, hotdogs, and chicken nuggets. He will pretty much eat whatever we are eating! Just in the past couple of days he has been whining more while eating baby food- but just fine when he get the finger foods. So we are going to transition him over to mostly finger foods :) So proud that he went from not putting anything in his mouth to now ONLY wanting finger foods!
Sleeping: Luke is a great sleeper- he goes to bed around 8:30 and gets up in the morning around 7or 7:30. He takes a 30 min to 1hour nap in the morning (when we are home) and usually takes a nice 2 hour nap in the afternoon.
Favorite toys: pulling up on his jumperoo to play with a spinning toy, his singing mirror, little workbench, car steering wheel, playing in Amelia's little kitchen opening and closing the doors
Other achievements:
- when you ask Luke to give you a kiss he will lean in and plop a slobbery open mouth on your cheek
- Luke is such a snuggle bug- he loves to snuggle in when he is sleepy or doesn't feel well
-understand several phrases: time for a bath, time to take a nap, let's go upstairs
-seems to really study how things work- loves to open and close doors, he doesn't care yet what is behind the door just the process of opening and closing the door
- understands when we use hand signs for milk, all done, and more- he does not use the signs but he seems to understand what they mean when we use them

Mickey Road Rally Birthday Bash
We had a blast at Luke's 1st birthday party! I reserved the upper gym at our church and invited all the families from our small group. We asked them to bring their kids ride-on toys and we had a "track" area set up for the kids to ride their toys around. We ate pizza and cupcakes, mickey mouse cookies, and chocolate dipped marshmallows. The kids all seem to love riding their various ride-on toys all over the gym. Luke was a PIG- one of my friends was holding him and said Luke grabbed the mickey chocolate chip cookie right out of her hand and just shoved it in his mouth! Later when Dan was holding him- Luke grabbed the piece of pizza that Dan was holding and tried to put it in his mouth (he had already had his favorite baby food dinner and some small bites of pizza at that point!). He completely smashed his cupcake and then ate a lot of it! It was such a fun time and we are so grateful to all our friends for making Luke's 1st birthday celebration so special!
pizza!
desserts!
Mickey Mouse cupcakes (I made myself- I'm so proud at how well they turned out!)

Birthday Party at Home
A year ago this day- our little boy completely surprised us and came nearly two weeks early! Wow this sweet boy has grown and changed so much in one year! Quick flashback:
On Luke's birthday we had a fun family party complete with pizza and presents! Luke enjoyed eating some bites of pizza along with his baby food. Amelia couldn't wait to "help" open his presents so we did that right after dinner. Luke just is not interested at ALL in opening presents. Dan will hold him and show him how to tear the paper and he will just squirm and wriggle and try to get down. Once the presents are opened he wants to check them out but opening them- not his thing. Amelia was more than happy to "help" her little brother open all of his presents.
The day before we had gotten a package in the mail and Amelia just couldn't wait to open it- so we opened the night before Luke's birthday
A whole box of Thomas the Train things- bath toys, a straw cup, fork and spoon, and a glow in the dark T-shirt
the bath toys were a big hit- Luke liked knocking them off the side of the bathtub over and over again
lots of red wrapping paper :)
Daddy helping Luke open a present
he checks it out briefly- a car carrier with lots of fun buttons to push and a moving lift
and he's done
now this singing turtle he really liked . . .
"take it out"
fun new outfit
puppy dog that walks and barks
new guitar- he likes the rolling ball that makes it play faster
new big boy backpack- hopefully I can get his name embroidered on it :)
a new Mickey Mouse clubhouse pop-up tent, tunnel and ball pit
not too sure about this ball pit
he kept trying to get out
and then he had enough!
Amelia rocking it out on Luke's new guitar
a big pile of new toys and what does the birthday boy do? crawl over to the kitchen and open and close the door over and over again
open it
hmm what next?
sweet birthday boy-
Happy 1st Birthday Luke! Mommy and Daddy and Amelia love you SOOO much!
