8 Months Old

Luke is 8 Months Old.  Wow!  Time is just flying by.  Here is what my snuggle bug is up to now:

Luke is wearing all 9 month clothes and starting to wear 12 month pajamas.  I have pulled out some short sleeve 12 month shirts as well.  The 12 month pants on the other hand just swallow him up!  He is still wearing size 3 diapers and he is filling up size 2 shoes.

Loves when I sing his song "You'll be in my heart".  It's from our Disney CD- I think from the movie Tarzan.  Anyway- Amelia's song is "Whole New World" from Aladdin and I just couldn't sing a princess song to him so I started with "You'll be in my heart".  At first I didn't think it did much good- singing didn't seem to effect him like it did Amelia but now- oh my.  This boy will just start grinning and cooing when I start singing his song.  Amelia will even sing it to him when he starts getting fussy or crying.

Sleeping- he is still sleeping through the night!  He will take a quick 30 minute nap in the mornings; if we are home and I lay him in his bed it will be about an hour.  In the afternoons he will sleep for 1.5 to 2 hours.  The past week or so it has been much shorter but I think that is due to him teething. Rarely takes the catnap in the evenings anymore.

Eating:  Luke LOVES food. We have now added meats and yogurt and he just devours anything you give him.  The first time he had chicken- was the day before he turned 8 months old- he kept saying "Mmmm" after each bite. I am still making most of his baby food- but I not too sure about pureeing meat so we have been buying those :) I've tried giving him the puffs but he still can't quite pick them up and get them in his mouth.  He does love his sippy cup of cold water.  I think it must feel good on his gums because he chews on it more than he drinks at this point.

He has the bottom two teeth coming in.  The one on his left poked through first followed by the other a couple of days later.  He is a trooper though- the drooling is not bad, only a slight fever the past day or two, and he is still sleeping all night.  Soo different from his sister.

Almost crawling!  He wants to move SOO bad.  He will get on this belly and stretch out his hands to try to reach a toy. Then he will get up on his hands and knees and rock and then try to push himself forward with his feet.  He hasn't figured out yet how to coordinate between his hands and knees.  He is soo close though.  Hopefully he will not be so whiny when he can finally move and get around.

look of concentration- he is trying to figure something out

Talks all the time- said "Mama" first!  It totally made my day!  He first said it the day before he turned 8 months old.  Now he has also said "Dada".  Usually the sounds he makes are the "mama", "baba" and "dada".

Does not really put anything in his mouth except his hands.  He will NOT take a paci. When I try to put toys up to his mouth for him to chew on he will for a brief moment and then he would just rather bang it around and put his fingers in his mouth.  He doesn't suck on his fingers - it's really more like he is chewing to help the teething.

Luke really likes to snuggle when he is going to sleep.  He especially likes his blue silky blanket- to be snuggled up and warm.  Well we are getting his silky blanket monogrammed so I put in this lovey during his nap time for him to snuggle with.  I think since we used the silky blanket so much he just is comforted by the feeling of the silky material.

Luke adores his big sister.  He lights up when he first sees her in the morning or after nap time.  She has been totally into him lately- wanting to "play" with him.  Basically she grabs his hands and moves them all around while she sings to him or she will give him big hugs that almost knock him over.  Poor little guy.  He loves it at first but after a little while- he starts to get whiny and I have to let Amelia know that Luke's needs some play time by himself.  She loves to help me change his diaper and get him dressed in the morning as well.

Packing Up at Grandma and Grandpa's

Over Labor Day weekend the kids and I headed up to Grandma and Grandpa's house to help them pack up.  They are moving back to the Raleigh area while Grandpa finishes his PhD at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Amid all the packing over the weekend we also took a trip to the St. Louis Zoo.

Amelia and Luke "helping" pack

Big smiles here- but this little guy had a rough time the first couple of days we were there-he just wanted to be held the whole time.  Makes it very hard to pack things up with only one hand!  Luckily when we went to the zoo he was great!  Loved riding in the stroller and looking at everything- such a trooper!  He was much better the last day we were there- playing and back to his usual self.

Love these faces he makes

Happy boy- when we was being held

St. Louis Zoo

Amelia loved climbing up on the fence to see each animal- and she asked "what's that?" or "what's this one Mommy?" at each habitat we stopped at

new sea lion exhibit- we waited in a long line to walk through a pretty cool underwater tunnel;  Amelia wasn't sure what to think when the sea lions came swimming over her head

This little penguin was strutting his stuff and putting on a show- he would jump in the water and splash us as he swam around. Then he would get out, stand for a few minutes, and then start again.  Amelia loved it!

Up close with a hippo- hard to tell but there is another hippo behind the wooden pole and they were fighting with each other.  It was so crowded as everyone was trying to get up close to see them going at each other.

this guy was in the water and really showing off for the crowd

Hmm not many pictures of Luke from the zoo- but plenty of his cuteness while we were trying to pack up :)

Around the House

Just some random pictures of our day to day craziness!

Every time we go for a walk- Luke gets this huge grin and LOVES driving/riding in his car

Amelia's new tricycle- this one has a handle so we can push and not have to bend over to help her.  Only thing is her legs are just not quite fast enough to keep up with it while we are pushing.  She will get it though- she already can ride her little pink tricycle by herself that she got for Christmas.

Luke with his first sippy cup- he actually likes cold water!

Daddy's Birthday

Happy Birthday to Daddy!  This year- no big extravagant gifts or activities like jumping out of a plane or hang gliding.  Just a wonderful Date Night and a family party at home.  Some friends offered to keep the kids for us so we could have a date night so we planned to take advantage of it for Dan's birthday.  We dropped the kids off in the afternoon and went out to run some errands around town.  We stopped back by so I could breastfeed Luke and then headed back out for a wonderful dinner at Outback.  Alone.  Just the two of us.  No kids.  It . . . was . . . incredible!  We haven't had a Date Night out since before Luke was born.  Oh man- was it nice to just enjoy dinner and have adult conversation.  We didn't have to rush.  We had forgotten what it was like to take our time and enjoy a meal out.

Dan loves cookie cakes- so the kids and I surprised him at work with a store bought one and some balloons but then I also made one for us to enjoy at home.  This was my first attempt at making a homemade cookie cake. My homemade one ended up being better than the store bought one- even if it was more oval than round.

Love love LOVE this pic of my two favorite guys

Check it out- BOTH kids smiling in the same picture.  Happy Birthday Daddy!  Amelia kept singing it to him over and over again :)

Happy Birthday to the man of my dreams- who I could not picture my life without.  We are just perfect for each other- we have so much in common but in other ways our differences balance each other out so well.  I love you more and more :)

Yummy cookie cake!

Luke even wanted to try some

A fun birthday party at home with these two- so special!

then Amelia got very silly- singing Happy Birthday and a bunch of other little songs

Visit with Papa

Papa came up for a quick visit a couple of weeks ago.  You see, our sweet Jasmine came into heat and we rushed her down to Florida to have some quality time with Scooby Doo- Papa's red/white stud dog.  Needless to say, we are expecting some puppies in a couple of weeks :)  Well Papa brought Jasmine back up to us and spent a day hanging out.

Mountain getaway with friends

Last week I had the opportunity to meet up with my best friend Sabrina and her two kiddos at her friend Sarah's house in the mountains outside Asheville, NC.  Sarah and her husband Ben live in a neat little log cabin nestled in the mountains.  There is a river running through the property and several other small cabins for guests.  No bathrooms in the small cabins so we had to walk up to the bathhouse or to Sarah's house.

Our first day there we went to visit Sarah's husband Ben- he works on a research farm and they have cows.  The kids were so excited to see the cows- they moo-ed in the car all the way there.

After lunch at a yummy local sandwich shop, we took the kids down to the river to throw in rocks.  The area was blocked by rocks and a log so it made a small pool- perfect for the kids to wade out into and play safely.

Of course it would be Amelia that would fall in and get completely wet!

The kids were a little chilly and dirty after playing in the cold mountain river and then walking back so it was time for a nice warm bath

Sarah had an awesome patch of wildflowers out in her yard.  The girls LOVED picking flowers and bringing them to us :)

Check out this handsome little guy

Amelia LOVED playing on the swingset

We put all the kid's carseats in Sabrina's SUV so we could all ride together.  On the way to the park all the kids were playing on their leap frog computers- it was pretty funny but I couldn't get a picture.

Determination . . . to do it by herself . . . and she did!

She really just wanted to swing the whole time- we are going to have to get this girl a swing set
